How to Find Prosthetic Companies Near Me

How to Find Prosthetic Companies Near Me
July 3, 2020Nicole RizzoGeneral News

The loss of a limb is an increasingly common medical condition in the country. In fact, more than 2 million people are facing life without a limb and experts expect that number to continue climbing. Between 300-500 amputations are performed each day in operating rounds across the U.S. and if it’s recently happened to you, you probably have plenty of questions about what life looks like in the future. One of the first steps is to identify prosthetic companies so that you can start getting answers to some of your most pressing questions.

Search for prosthetic companies

One of the easiest ways to find a prosthetic company is to head online and conduct a search. Results will be filtered geographically meaning the top results will be businesses that are located close by. You can take the results you find and do further research on each company from their website and customer reviews available elsewhere.

Your first appointment

If you’ve experienced an amputation surgery, a prosthetic won’t become part of your recovery until the amputation site is completely healed. This could take up to six months after the limb has been removed. You’ll then have a consultation appointment with a prosthetic company and begin the process of learning to live with your new limb.

Physical therapy

Physical therapy will be part of the healing process and getting adjusted to life with your prosthetic. You will have many appointments with skilled providers who specialize in teaching patients how to live with an artificial limb. Physical therapy could last up to a year after you’ve been fitted for your prosthetic.

Life after treatment

Anything is possible depending on how hard you’re committed to working with your new prosthetic. You can be as active as you want to be and they make artificial limbs for a multitude of activities from swimming to long-distance running and more. An amputation doesn’t mean life is over, it just means a new life is beginning.
